Meet the Tribe: Victoria Deeks MS, ANP

OnePeak’s Victoria Deeks brings 30+ years of experience in Primary and Urgent Care to Redmond

Q: Can you tell us about the path you took to becoming a Nurse Practitioner?

A: I started my career in intensive care where I worked in many different departments including a burn unit in Hawaii, cardiac intensive care, and Level 1 Trauma at OHSU. After years in intensive care, I needed to mix it up and was determined to use my experience to support my patients in achieving optimal wellness rather than just acute injuries. I transitioned into Primary Care at Kaiser Permanente in Clackamas, OR where I managed overall health, medication, and chronic illnesses, as well as urgent care needs. After 18 years at Kaiser, I wanted more autonomy and responsibility – and that’s when I found OnePeak.

Q: Why functional medicine?

A: After 30+ years in health care, it was time to focus on providing individualized programs to support the needs of my patients. Functional medicine allows me to think outside the box and create health plans based on the patient’s needs. Patients choose OnePeak for a reason and they tend to be more engaged and trust me to help guide them in the right direction.
As a provider, my goal is to support my patients with reaching their health goals. I can make recommendations and guidelines but will support whatever they are personally comfortable with to be successful. Everyone has their own truth, and it’s my duty to support my patients the best I can.

Q: Is there an achievement/contribution you are most proud of?

A: Raising four successful boys as a single mom and full-time nurse is one of my greatest achievements.

Q: How do you like to spend your time when you’re not helping patients?

A: I love the outdoors – particularly hiking (Tumalo Falls and Taylor Lake are two of my local favorites), and skiing (I skied competitively in grade school and high school). I also enjoy reading a variety of genres. Lately, I’ve been reading more on hypnotherapy and alternative ways to help people reverse the effects of long-standing health issues.

Q: You’re relatively new to Redmond. What brought you to the area?

A: I recently got engaged and my fiancé lives in Bend, so we decided to move my practice from Roseburg to Redmond to be closer to him. I grew up in Oregon and Bend/Redmond has a lot to offer for an outdoors enthusiast like myself. I’m excited to be here!

Q: What do you love most about OnePeak?

A: We have a great team of like-minded health care providers who offer a variety of resources within the practice. They have helped broaden my expertise and we’re always looking for new things to share with each other.

Q: What is your favorite service at OnePeak?

A: The PRP Scalp treatment is one of my favorites. Hair loss can have such a big impact on someone’s confidence and I love being able to offer that boost of confidence for my patients. There are so many ways to take care of yourself – this is just one of them.

I also think our nutritional support at OnePeak is so beneficial to the overall health of my patients. Many people think drugs or supplements are the only way to get better, but FOOD tops the list. Food can cause many reactions (both positive and negative) and health care providers are not always as knowledgeable as we should be. The fact that we have a specialized nutritionist on staff is HUGE. Plus, most insurance plans will cover the visit which makes it more accessible to everyone.

Q: What is the most rewarding part of your job?

A: When a patient comes back and they share how much better they feel. Not only do they tell you they feel better, but you can see it in the way they look and act. It’s a great feeling!

Q: How would you like to be remembered?

A: I’d like to be remembered as adventurous and open to new experiences.

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to work on a commercial salmon fishing boat in Alaska for a change of pace. I love trying new things and hope to never stop.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

A: Functional medicine – but adding telemedicine to reach more people.
