Nicole Borrenpohl, APRN, PMHNP
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner located in Virtual

Nicole Borrenpohl, APRN, PMHNP, began her journey in healthcare working as a CNA when she was just 17 years old; nearly 20 years later, she is still loving every minute of it. She received her Bachelor’s in Nursing at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and worked as an RN in the inpatient Mood Disorders Unit at Mayo Clinic Rochester. After five years as an RN, she went back to her studies at Rush University in Chicago and became a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). As a PMHNP, she worked in an outpatient specialty mood clinic for three years and has been an outpatient clinician at Capital Region Medical Center for the last six years. Her longing to better serve her community’s needs drove her to become a Lifespan PMHNP through a post-master’s program at the University of Missouri, Kansas City.
Nicole deeply believes in individualized mental health treatment by listening to each person’s unique story, situation, and biology. She believes medication can be a piece of the mental health puzzle for some people, but not everything. When working with patients, she takes into account the person as a whole, especially their preferences for treatment. After working in psychiatry for 14 years, she developed a special interest is in pharmacogenomic testing and perinatal psychiatry.
In her time away from work, Nicole enjoys playing volleyball, crocheting, getting outside, and leading her daughter’s Girl Scout Troop, which she believes is making a positive impact for her troop.
