Fitness and Nutrition Adviser located in Lake Oswego, OR

Vanessa Burnum, MS, is a functional nutritionist who enjoys helping others improve their health and wellbeing and slow the process of aging so they can experience their best quality of life. She earned her Bachelor of Science in chemistry and Bachelor of Arts in biology from Whitworth University and completed her Master of Science in human nutrition and functional medicine at University of Western States. A native Oregonian, Vanessa has had a variety of experiences in science and medicine, working as a senior research assistant at Oregon Health & Science University, a certified nurse assistant in home care, and front desk at a Traditional Chinese Medicine clinic.

Vanessa started her wellness journey in 2009 when she changed her own approach to fitness and nutrition, discovering the benefits of eschewing a standard western diet and consuming whole foods, which helped resolve her systemic inflammation and overweight. Intrigued by her personal experience in the power of food and exercise, Vanessa was drawn to pursue functional medicine because of its personalized, holistic, evidence-based approach that uses food as medicine to treat root causes of disease and imbalances. She is enthusiastic about sharing her knowledge of utilizing healthful lifestyle changes to support patients on their journey to prevent, heal, and reverse chronic disease and imbalances, promote longevity, and feel their absolute best.

In her free time, Vanessa enjoys motorcycling, cycling, singing in a non-profit choir, reading high fantasy novels, and doing all things outdoors.
