Specialty Diet Protocols
Body Analysis Phases 1-4
This is an anti-Inflammatory, low glycemic nutrition protocol.
- Phase 1 (the jump-start cleansing/elimination phase) begins by cutting out processed foods, sugars, gluten, most dairy, high glycemic/high starch fruits/vegetables, and also all complex carbohydrates for 2-4 weeks.
- Phase 2 begins to slowly reintroduce some foods that were not in Phase 1 such as some additional vegetables, fruits, and a few complex carbs such as sweet potato.
- Phase 3 continues to reintroduce new foods and you're encouraged to listen to your body and create a customized approach to nutrition based on how your body responds.
- Phase 4 is maintenance.
This protocol educates you on lifestyle nutrition and is easy to follow with provided food lists, food combination charts to learn lifestyle nutrition, meal plans, shopping lists, a food journal, and more.
Who is it for?
This protocol is for EVERYONE. However, it is especially good for those who need to balance blood sugar, decrease systemic inflammation, and/or lose weight. This teaches you lifestyle nutrition. We also transition most HCG patients from HCG into Phase 2 and then work with them through the rest of the phases.
HCG Protocol
The HCG protocol is a weight loss program that is administered by injection and allows the body to aggressively attack stored fat while sparing muscle. You can expect to lose around .5-1 lb a day. You can also experience therapeutic benefits such as reversal of insulin resistance, balanced hormones, increased energy and mental clarity, improved digestive health, and decreased triglycerides. You will give yourself an injection 1x/day for 24 days accompanied by a low fat, low glycemic, clean, whole foods diet. Foods consist of quality/lean proteins, non-starchy vegetables, and fruit.
Who is it for?
This is great for any patient who has been weight loss resistant or interested in weight loss and wants to see a quick win. Also appropriate for those who want to take a more aggressive therapeutic approach to balance blood sugar and hormones. Once a patient has completed 1-2 rounds of HCG they transition into Body Analysis Phase 2 (see above).
Candida Protocol
This protocol addresses bacterial or yeast overgrowth in the body that when overgrown, break through the intestinal wall and leak into the bloodstream causing uncomfortable symptoms and an increased likelihood of disease development and systemic dysfunction. The Candida Protocol follows a low sugar diet, supports the creation of an acidic environment in the gut that makes it difficult for bacteria to grow, includes proper supplementation recommendations to eradicate the overgrowth with possible anti-fungal medication and lifestyle adjustments based on each individual's needs.
Who is it for?
This protocol is good for any patient who has tested positive for Candida overgrowth through stool test or written quiz and/or is suffering from the symptoms of bacterial/yeast overgrowth such as skin infections, headaches, intense cravings for sugar, chronic fatigue, hormonal imbalances, autoimmune disease, diabetes, frequent infections, food allergies or intolerances, thyroid conditions like Hashimoto’s, joint pain, and arthritis.
If you think you might have Candida overgrowth, ask your Medical Provider for a Candida Quiz and proceed with the protocol or additional testing if appropriate.
Detox Protocol
This protocol includes education on the importance of detox and how every person’s health and well-being depend on how well their body removes and purges toxins. It aligns with Phase 1/Phase 2 liver detox pathways and includes a pre-detox week, 2 weeks of detox, and 1 week of post-detox. It also includes specific supplementation to support detox. The protocol includes a food list, meal plans, food/mood journal, and more. The patient is monitored at two weeks to assess progress, give support, and make any needed adjustments.
Who is it for?
This is an appropriate protocol for anyone who would like to detox. It is suggested that a detox such as this would be appropriate 1-2x/year for optimal health. We also recommend this detox protocol for patients with elevated liver enzymes, patients with high triglycerides, and for those who don’t feel well, experience chronic fatigue, brain fog, joint pain/inflammation, who report feeling “toxic” with digestive symptoms, and/or are weight loss resistant despite their best efforts.
Low-Histamine Protocol
The Low-Histamine Protocol focuses is on regulating and balancing the histamine hormone to alleviate and reverse uncomfortable reactions in the body such as allergic reactions, food sensitivities, inflammation, fibromyalgia, anxiety, headaches/migraines, congestion/runny nose, hives, asthma attacks, eczema/psoriasis, hypertension, vertigo, fatigue, etc.
Histamine intolerance occurs from a DAO deficiency where the person is unable to break down histamine, which can develop into an intolerance. Your DAO enzyme levels could be affected by medications that block DAO functions, gastrointestinal disorders such as leaky gut syndrome, and inflammatory bowel disease. Also, histamine-rich foods that block DAO enzymes and bacterial overgrowth are other contributing factors for developing histamine intolerance.
The patient eats from a low-histamines food list for at least four weeks to decrease inflammation and allergic reactions in the body. Then under the direction of their Nutritional Adviser, the patient will systematically reintroduce foods to test tolerance/sensitivity. Some will need to eat low histamine longer than others before introducing foods back in, but once the body is allowed to fully recover, the patient will likely be able to tolerate high-histamine foods in moderation and even reintroduce them entirely at some point. This protocol includes education, food lists, meal plans, specific supplementation suggestions, lifestyle recommendations, food/mood journals, and more.
Who is it for?
For patients who struggle with any of the symptoms listed above and other dietary protocols have not alleviated the symptoms. If you struggle with many food sensitivities or intolerances, have poor gut health, suffer from headaches, skin rashes and hives, have constant runny/congested nose, and are a long-time asthma sufferer, then the Low-Histamine Protocol could be for you.
Low FODMAP Protocol
A low FODMAP diet is a diet low in fermentable foods. Foods that ferment easily in the intestinal tract will feed bad gut bacteria and make healing the gut difficult. By restricting high FODMAP foods initially, it allows the gut to heal, and then high FODMAP foods are introduced slowly to assess personal tolerance to them. This protocol begins with 4-8 weeks of avoiding all high FODMAP foods and enjoying foods from the low FODMAP list. If symptoms have improved during that time, the patient will begin to reintroduce one high FODMAP food a week and note tolerance/symptoms. This protocol includes food lists, meal plans, food/mood journals, and more.
Who is it for?
This protocol is for anyone who has been diagnosed with, or struggling with, digestive dysfunction and symptoms such as IBS, gas, GI pain, bloating, fluctuating constipation/diarrhea, SIBO (Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth), Dysbiosis, and/or Leaky Gut Syndrome.
Autoimmune Protocol (AIP)
Autoimmunity is the system of immune responses of an organism against its own healthy cells and tissues. Any disease that results from such an immune response is termed an “autoimmune disease.” The root cause of all autoimmune diseases is the same: our immune system, which is supposed to protect us from invading microorganisms, turns against us and attacks our proteins, cells, and tissues instead. Which proteins, cells, and tissues are attacked determine the autoimmune disease and its symptoms.
This protocol begins with Phase 1: a 4-week reset designed to reduce inflammation, improve digestion, burn fat, identify food sensitivities, reduce allergic reactions, boost energy, regulate blood sugar, and stabilize mood. This is done by eliminating the foods that contribute to disease, as well as the foods that people are most often allergic or intolerant to. It focuses on safe, nourishing foods that our ancestors enjoyed for thousands of years.
Then the patient will transition into Phase 2: food reintroductions with autoimmune paleo nutrition. For an additional 4-8 weeks the patient will begin to slowly reintroduce some of the foods that were eliminated in the 4-week reset while continuing to focus on listening to their body, taking note of reactions, and eating a clean, anti-inflammatory/autoimmune paleo diet.
The protocol includes easy-to-follow guidelines, food lists, and meal plans for each phase including supplement and lifestyle recommendations. The protocol also educates on autoimmunity and includes tips, tricks, meal planners, food/mood trackers, and more.
Who is it for?
This protocol is for any patient who is currently diagnosed or struggling with the symptoms of an autoimmune disease such as Celiac, Chrones, Hashimoto’s, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriasis, Lupus, etc.
Gut Optimization Protocol
There is much more to your gut than just digesting foods. Did you know that more than 70% of your immune system is housed in the gut? With the gut being such a central part of our health, it is no wonder that when we have gut imbalances it can wreak havoc on our lives including our mental and immune health.
This guide will walk you through all things gut health including supplement recommendations and a basic overview of an elimination-style diet to help identify food sensitivities/intolerances and recommendations for further testing if needed or desired.
Intuitive Eating Guide
Intuitive Eating is a practice to change eating habits without attaching to a particular diet, but rather connecting with the body’s own cues of when, how much, and what to eat. According to the National Eating Disorders Association, intuitive eating is about trusting your body’s wisdom without judgment or influence from diet culture.
Who is it for?
Intuitive eating is an excellent choice if you:
- Are stuck in a cycle of dieting and binging
- Have a history of disordered eating
- Tend toward emotional eating
- Want to feel more confident in your own skin
- Feel overwhelmed with diet culture
- Want to become more connected to your inner body’s wisdom
- If your primary care provider and nutrition adviser feels like it would be a good fit!
